Shalak Consultant Contribution: Contribution was limited to data and information collection and technical support to DAWSSA for the selection of the materials needed for the rehabilitation works provided by the Japanese main contractor Taisei Corporation.
The Project Features at a Glance:
Due to the high percentage of water leakage from mainly the old tunnel that was constructed in 1932, JICA decided to support DAWSSA to alleviate part of its water shortage by rehabilitation of the tunnel to decrease the leakage from more than 20% to less than 5%. The project was executed by a Japanese contractor and the result of the rehabilitation works achieved 4.2% of the water leakage from the tunnel.
